Building a dairy operation in Ontario

Friendly Goat Dairy exists because fresh, local goat dairy is still difficult to find across much of Ontario. Goat milk and goat yogurt are everyday foods in many parts of the world, and we think they deserve a modern, approachable place in Canadian kitchens.

So we started with the unglamorous part: building a real dairy operation, in Ontario, with the equipment and processes needed to make products we would be proud to put our name on.

Preparing the processing facility

Our processing facility is currently being prepared for dairy production. That means the surfaces, drainage, cold storage and flow of the space all have to work for milk before anything else can happen.

Bringing in specialized dairy equipment

We have purchased specialized dairy processing equipment, which is being installed and commissioned. Fresh milk and cultured products place different demands on equipment, and getting this right is what makes consistent quality possible later.

Developing milk and cultured dairy products

Our first three products are fresh goat milk, goat yogurt and drinkable goat yogurt. All three are in development. Recipes, cultures, textures and packaging are open questions we are actively working through, which is why you will not find sizes, flavours or prices anywhere on this site yet.

Testing before launch

Before anything reaches a shelf, we will run trial batches and taste, adjust and test again. Goat milk in particular rewards careful handling — freshness and temperature control shape the flavour more than most people realise.

Starting in Ottawa and Eastern Ontario

Our initial market is Ottawa and Eastern Ontario. Starting close to home lets us keep the time between production and the people eating our products short while we learn.

Ontario now, Canada later

Longer term, we want to grow throughout Ontario and, in time, across Canada. That is an ambition, not a promise with a date attached.
